Should sharing of files on the internet be banned?
There is a lot of controversy surrounding the question, “Should sharing of information be banned?” Some people feel that it should be, while others feel that it shouldn’t be. Those that feel that information ought to be free are generally opposed to large corporations which control the majority of the information on the Internet. In other words, they don’t want the power to make information available for the general public. Therefore, they think that information should be controlled by those with the right to access it.
In order for this to happen there will need to be some sort of filter system put into place on the Internet. This will prevent individuals from being able to gain access to files that they shouldn’t be able to. The problem is that many of the people that do end up downloading files that shouldn’t be downloaded on the internet have done so with their permission. Therefore, the fact that there is no filter system or software doesn’t make sense.
There are those who feel that there is no reason that any information online should be free. In fact, some feel that it is downright unethical to share that information online. Others feel that it is alright as long as the information is not used in a negative way. Still others feel that if it is shared then people should be able to have access to that information regardless of whether they are using it in a negative way or in a positive way.
The fact of the matter is that there are pros and cons to all of these ideas. On one side of the argument you have the person who is saying that the information should not be shared at all. On the other side of the argument are those who say that it should not be free but should be available to certain groups of people. On the other side of the argument you also have individuals who are saying that all file sharing on the internet should be illegal and that those who do have such files should pay for them or face severe consequences. With that said it is impossible to state definitively which side of the file sharing debate you fall on.
One thing that does stand firm however is that everyone has the right to their own opinion. While some feel that sharing files online should be illegal, there are many people who agree with their position. They simply feel that information should not be allowed to be shared unless there is a very good reason to do so. The same is true when it comes to file sharing.
In many cases it is quite easy to determine what exactly is a good reason to share that information. This is especially true when a person has some sort of professional reason for making the information available. For example, if an artist wants to give his work to the public for a fee then sharing the work will almost always be legal. However, most people are not in the position to pay large fees to others for the right to print their own images and to share them online.
It is important to understand that there are two main ways in which the law sees the issue of file sharing. On one hand there are the people who believe that sharing is completely legal. On the other hand there are those who believe that people should be prevented from sharing large pieces of information. These two views are not necessarily opposed to each other. The fact is that there are many instances in which sharing large files is legal while there are also many situations where the sharing of information would be viewed as immoral by the legal system. Therefore the question should be asked as to whether or not the law should prevent people from being able to share large amounts of information on the Internet or not.
The short answer is that the answer should simply be “No”. If the information in question is necessary for you to do something legitimate then sharing it will most likely be allowed as long as there is no way for the other party to trace the information in question. Sharing information about the history of the planet Earth would almost certainly be illegal but if a person is sharing information such as the latest sales statistics for a company they worked for, then that is completely acceptable. The reason for this is that the identity of the person who was doing the sharing was needed and that the identity of the company they were working for had to remain confidential in order for that information to be available to the public.
